The Brief
Reflect on a problem you or society has, big or small, and define the problem space. Create an app that resolves it.
Design Process
Overview
Serving as a centralized hub, HomeSlice simplifies household responsibilities and schedules for all members. With personalized/shared reminders and direct/anonymous note-sharing features, HomeSlice promotes effective communication and coordination, fostering a harmonious home environment. Designed from a roommate's point of view, the features include a notice board that acts as your digital kitchen fridge, shared shopping lists, task randomization, and a shared calendar.
Research
For the app's first iteration, our team engaged in an extensive research phase. We began by administering a comprehensive survey to investigate user preferences across various domains such as group communication apps, multi-channel platforms, and collaborative tools. This survey also delved into practical considerations, notably exploring interest in a roommate task management application and gaining insights into how users typically organize and schedule their tasks. Additionally, we thoroughly examined technology integration aspects, focusing particularly on the usage of Google Drive and Google Calendar for collaborative purposes.
Competitive audits, card sorting, 'crazy 8s' ideation, heuristic evaluations, and live user feedback were employed for a holistic understanding. This comprehensive research provided valuable insights into user habits and preferences, guiding the subsequent phases of the project.

How might we organize household chores so they are clear and easy to execute?
How might we allow for open communication in a household?
How might we seamlessly facilitate task delegation?
How might we hold people accountable without passive aggressiveness?
